BLOOD TESTS FOR PFASs CONTENT EVALUATION AT A REDUCED RATE IN THE «ORANGE AREA» OF THE VENETO REGION

It is known that in some areas of Veneto Region (Italy) the contamination of the groundwater by PFASs is very high.

At the end of December 2022, the Veneto Region has adopted a provision to allow residents of the so-called “Orange Area” to be able to carry out the test for the PFAS blood content at a reduced rate, even if only until mid-April.

This is to responds to the needs that part of the population residing in these municipalities has repeatedly expressed but also to re-evaluate the risk related to the use of well water.

Note: residents of the more polluted and critical Red Area have had access to screening for some time now.

In this context, it is important to highlight the LIFE FOUNTAIN project is focused on the PFASs groundwater contamination exactly in that geographic area.

In fact, a contaminated aquifer site close to Gaser TC (Vicenza) will be addressed as specific sources in order to:

  1. get new insights on relevant sources emitting PFAS to the water cycle;
  2. identify source-related fingerprints and endocrine toxicity profiles in effluents of finishing industry and groundwater of the Vicenza province.
